Christoph Prégardien & Malcolm Martineau
Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Wagner
Last season, tenor Christoph Prégardien was our guest at deSingel, both as a conductor of works by Bach, and as part of a duo with his son Julian. Now we once again hear him in his full glory in a lieder recital. Over the years, his voice has gained baritonal warmth and the German lied continues to be his favourite repertoire. Together with the brilliant pianist Malcolm Martineau, Prégardien gives a perfect demonstration of what a lieder recital should be: a rollercoaster of emotions. Timeless feelings such as (un)requited love, loneliness and ‘Sehnsucht’. All set to music with a vast stylistic diversity. From romantic nature scenes to exciting thrillers such as Schubert’s ‘Doppelgänger’. Prégardien and Martineau sing and play straight from the heart. If only time could stand still
