Christoph Prégardien - Michael Gees

Schubert's song cycle 'Die schöne Müllerin', with lyrics by Wilhelm Müller, focuses on characteristically Romantic topics: love, the longing for death, nature and "Wanderschaft" [wandering/travelling]. The German tenor Christoph Prégardien almost becomes the sensitive, introverted miller's boy. His warm, mellow timbre, his insightful handling of the lyrics and his crystal-clear diction make Prégardien one of the best interpreters of Schubert's Lieder. Deeply felt, but never lapsing into sentiment, Prégardien sings straight to the heart, well assisted by the imaginative and colourful playing of the pianist Michael Gees.
