Christopher Maltman & Roger Vignoles
Concert - De liederen van Richard Strauss - deel 2
Before the concert, you can enjoy an accompanying lecture by Roger Vignoles at 18h in the Theaterstudio.
The British pianist Roger Vignoles is more familiar with the Lieder repertoire than any other musician. He is currently recording the complete songs of Richard Strauss for the Hyperion label. We have invited him to come and immerse us in the world of the Strauss song for three seasons in succession. Each time with a talk given from the piano – Vignoles is also a gifted speaker – followed by a recital.
Strauss wrote more than two hundred songs. But one always hears the some dozen at most recitals. In this series we want to highlight the treasure trove of lesser-known songs. To paint a more complete portrait of Strauss the composer of Lieder.
On this occasion Vignoles will be accompanying no less a singer than the great British baritone Christopher Maltman. This may surprise you, since Strauss is usually associated with the soprano voice. His rhapsodic, lyrical songs are however also highly suited to baritones. And certainly a baritone of Maltman’s calibre: with his broad, dynamic and expressive vocal range he gives a nuance to every word and harmony.
