Since 2016, the acclaimed City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra has been conducted by Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, one of the rising stars of the conducting world. And we have first-hand experience of this, since her explosive performance in the Queen Elisabeth Hall two years ago. Now Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla shares the stage with the Polish piano virtuoso Pjotr Anderszewski, internationally renowned for the great transparency, intelligence and musical insight. On the programme: Bartók’s Third Piano Concerto, which still lay unfinished on his desk when the composer died. This is a farewell with a remarkable joie de vivre, intense and radiant with folkish vitality.
Listening to a symphony by Bruckner is always an intense experience too. His Sixth Symphony is the least performed of the nine, and also the most multifaceted.
