Collegium Vocale Gent Academy is the new youth project from Collegium Vocale Gent. This project was set up to offer some perspective to young musicians in this Coronavirus era and to help them find their way in the professional world. During a first intense week focused on instrumentalists, the Academy offers the opportunity to work in an orchestra under the inspiring leadership of Philippe Herreweghe. The musicians were selected via online auditions. The orchestra is being coached by professional musicians with many years of experience in leading orchestras such as Collegium Vocale Gent, Concentus Musicus Wien, the Orchestre des Champs-Élysées or the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique.
In this Beethoven year, the Academy is taking the famous Fifth Symphony as its starting point for an exciting four-day rehearsal process. The Fifth’s famous minor third is not only a herald of fate, but also continues to conquer the hearts of connoisseurs and enthusiasts alike. The concert at deSingel will kick off with the Coriolan Overture, a vivid portrait of the Roman hero Coriolanus.
