Concert SPECTRA & notabu.ensemble neue musik olv. Filip Rathé
Ligeti, Reich, Riley
The music of György Ligeti is in the tradition of Bartók and Veress, but is also highly experimental. For every piece, he sought out a new form and musical language. In ‘Monument - Selbstportrait - Bewegung’, the 1976 triptych for two pianos, Ligeti paid tribute to the American minimalists Terry Riley and Steve Reich. In so doing, Ligeti acknowledged that is own polyrhythmic mechanisms had a great deal in common with minimal music. Indeed, SPECTRA puts the playful Ligeti and ‘hard core’ Reich and Riley amicably side by side in this concert. The virtuoso solo violin carries on a dialogue with an orchestra of 25 musicians who play in an equally virtuoso way.
AT 6 PM CONDUCTOR FILIP RATHÉ WILL GIVE A TALK on Ligeti (lasts about an hour, in Dutch). This lecture is INCLUDED in your concert ticket.
