The human voice is perhaps the most enigmatic instrument in existence. Nothing prepares us for the excitement that grips us when flawless technique, warmth and razor-sharp articulation merge. This is a miracle that Alaska-born Vivica Genaux works at every one of her performances. Her programme combines favourites from Handel’s ‘Rinaldo’ with less well-known but equally mesmerising work by Broschi and Hasse. In between, Concerto de’ Cavalieri is given all the space it needs to demonstrate its thrilling virtuosity in this classic selection of Italian orchestral music from the Baroque period.
