Concerto de' Cavalieri specialises in the virtuoso music of the Italian baroque. Marcello Di Lisa's ensemble is making its debut at deSingel with a sinfonia by Vivaldi, from the recently rediscovered opera 'La Vertità in cimento'; the overture to a masterpiece.
At the heart of this concert is the music of Arcangelo Corelli and Alessandro Scarlatti, the pioneers of the concerto grosso with that characteristic dialogue between the soloists and the tutti. We must not of course leave out the sparkling concertos by Vivaldi. Concerto de' Cavalieri offer you a sample of the most influential exponents of the most important Italian schools of that period: Naples (Scarlatti), Venice (Vivaldi), Rome (Corelli) and Bologna (Bononcini). They do so by following the course of the 'Grand Tour', the great journey taking in Italian culture that Europe's nobility undertook in the eighteenth century.
