Constantinople & Kinan Azmeh

From Montreal, Kiya Tabassian brings together artists and cultures from Mediterranean Europe and the Middle East. For ‘Under the Syrian Musical Sky’ he engages in an artistic dialogue with the famous Syrian clarinettist and composer Kinan Azmeh about the sumptuous, historical musical culture of Damascus and Aleppo. These two cities are amongst the oldest continuously inhabited places in the world, and for centuries have been enriched by numerous cultures.
As a response to the tragic current situation in Syria, they present a homage to what women and men have built up within traditional Syrian music and culture for centuries. With freshly-composed compositions and improvisations that honour the styles of Syria and the Middle East.
