80 trombones, organ and soprano. A striking line-up, it must be said. And yet Henry Brant’s ‘Orbits’ is more than just a gimmick. The American composer played a leading role in spatial music. Brant’s meticulous focus on the positioning of the performers in the space means that a work like ‘Orbits’ can only be truly appreciated live. In the hands of Crossbones Trombones, what may appear to be a recipe for a total cacophony is in fact a unique, three-dimensional sound sensation.
