Die Anarchistische Abendunterhaltung (DAAU) was founded at the Antwerp Conservatoire in 1992. By 1995, they had not only released a first, untitled CD, but had also developed a highly individual sound. These classically schooled musicians played their acoustic instruments like a rock band, and in true gypsy spirit, really letting rip in their improvisation. With a great deal of fanfare, they stormed the barricades between classical music and pop. What ensued was a musical journey that regularly made them see stars. Six albums, frequent changes of band members, excursions to new areas like electro, folk and jazz - but above all a live reputation to be proud of. Over the years, DAAU's sound has remained as elusive as it is original and authentic.
After the subdued 2010 album 'The Shepherd's Dream', the ensemble will be introducing its seventh album, 'Eight Definitions', in deSingel. This one is rather less muted than its predecessor, and has been produced with another new line-up. Boris Wilsdorf (Einstürzende Neubauten) saw to the mixing. With new band member Steven Cassiers (drums, ex-Dez Mona), the 2013 'Eight Definitions' concert programme will see DAAU sounding fresher than ever before.
