They describe themselves as ‘harmless modern Vikings’. These three Danish violinists were not yet 16 when they suddenly formed a quartet with a Norwegian cellist. Many concerts and prizes later, the Danish String Quartet will be making its deSingel debut with what is known as the ‘iron repertoire’: Haydn’s Second Sun Quartet and Beethoven’s First Razumovsky Quartet, sometimes described as the “Eroica of the string quartets”. And can’t we let our hair down a little? Your wish is our command! Because as luck would have it, this quartet enjoys both arranging and composing Scandinavian Folk Music. So after the interval, get ready for some rousing rhythms and voluptuous glissandos, all passionately performed in refined arrangements. Whether it’s ‘high’ music or ‘low’, the Danish String Quartet transforms it into an exhilarating extravaganza.
