David Murray Créole Project - Pharoah Sanders
AFGELAST
A quarter of a century ago, Murray astonished the jazz world with a new musical concept: postmodern free jazz - beyond Coltrane, Coleman and Ayler. As the most successful musician of his generation, he has compiled an impressive catalogue of recordings, made history with his legendary octet and charted a new course for big-band music. A decade earlier, Sanders did the same as John Coltrane's sparring partner. As a solo performer, Sanders is unparalleled: with his repertory of melodic concepts, unusual harmonies, sophisticated dynamic variations and impassioned solos. The combination of the jazz world's darlings Murray & Sanders guarantees saxophonic fireworks, punctuated with their typical 'human cry': screeching, squawking, screaming, quacking, ... 'The musical equivalent of obsessive-compulsive disorder.' Their collaboration in 1988 won a Grammy Award.
Pharaoh Sanders left the 'David Murray Créole Project' shortly before the start of the tour. This means that part of the tour, including the concert at deSingel, has been cancelled.
