Just like you, we have been eagerly awaiting this for years: the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie will be playing at deSingel! This super orchestra from Bremen dazzles audiences around the world with its blazing interpretations of the nineteenth-century repertoire. You'll be familiar with their concertmaster: Daniel Sepec, the violinist from our dearly loved Arcanto Quartet. The full-time conductor Paavo Järvi will be lending his orchestra to his British compeer Ivor Bolton for an evening of Mendelssohn.
His Piano Concerto is perfect for Nelson Goerner. Reviewers have been amazed by the abundance of varied emotions that Goerner brings to the surface in early romantic music: "He positively drips with passion", "His fingers glide in a virtuoso manner over the keys and draw you with him in a waterfall of surprise and suspense." Schumann experiences an equally ecstatic vision in 'Melusine': "shooting fish with golden scales, pearls in open mussels, red corals and green sea creatures, magic castles and deep seas". This mermaid overture also contains the seeds of Wagner's 'Tannhäuser' and 'Rheingold'. But enough of fairytales. The true 'Bremer stadsmuzikanten' will be crowning their work with the Third Symphony, inspired by the landscapes and folk music of Scotland.
