For some time now, the Doric String Quartet has been whipping up quite a storm. For their first performance at deSingel, this young, charismatic quartet will be presenting a programme that will have you licking your lips. They will be moving from the groundwork laid down by Haydn to the 'latest prodigy' Erich Wolfgang Korngold. Misunderstood for many years, Korngold is like a musical Obelix who has tumbled into a cauldron of late-Romantic magic potion. After creating sumptuous operas like 'Die tote Stadt', he distinguished himself for some time as a film composer. Now it's time for a serious re-evaluation. The group has already dedicated two CDs to him, both of which have been overloaded with five-star reviews. In his final string quartet, the 'Hollywood Kapellmeister' looks back over his life with a smile and a tear. The warmth and tenderness of the 'Sostenuto' section alone knows no equal in the quartet canon. Critics are full of praise for "the abundance of unexpected voices and colours" that the Doric String Quartet exposes in Korngold's music. Reason enough to come and experience this four-man super-talent at first hand.
