Elisso Wirssaladze

An Elisso Wirssaladze concert is a spiritual experience. One might even say a religious experience, with Wirssaladze as the high priest of music. It is difficult to say what exactly takes place during a recital by this 'grande dame' of the old Russian school of piano-playing. Sviatoslav Richter called her technique 'incredibly flawless'. With Wirssaladze, however, phenomenal technique and an endless variation of touch are placed at the service of an extraordinary inner ear that enables her to penetrate to the core of the music, or, as she puts it 'to the music's innermost regions', thereby transcending the material and succeeding in creating a sense of endlessness. For the listener, it is the greatest of privileges to be able to hear her, whatever composer is on the programme. Such celestial inspiration cannot be planned, but you can be sure that Elisso Wirssaladze will transport you to a higher sphere!
