A sudden illness suffered by Elisso Wirssaladze meant that this concert was unable to go ahead. Two pianists were found to replace her at the last minute: Jan Michiels and Tae-Hyung Kim (5th prize winner in the 2010 QEC and a pupil of Wirssaladze). Jan Michiels played Brahms' '3 Intermezzi, opus 117' and Beethoven's 'Sonata, opus 111'. Tae-Hyung Kim played Beethoven's 'Sonata, opus 10 no. 2' and Schumann's 'Fantasiestücke, opus 12'.
"Not of this world". This is how the pianist Elisso Wirssaladze describes Mozart's music. And her interpretations are divine too. It is difficult to say what exactly happens during a recital by this grand lady of the old school of Russian piano. Svyatoslav Richter has already called her technique "bewilderingly faultless". But her phenomenal technique and infinite variation of touch play but a secondary role. Wirssaladze has an exceptionally intuitive ear that enables her to penetrate to the essence of what she calls the 'inside' of the music. In this way she can go beyond the material itself and succeed in creating a feeling of infinity. For the listener, it can be nothing less than a great privilege to witness it. So it does not matter which composers are on the programme. Naturally, such supernatural inspiration does not allow itself to be planned years ahead. Elisso Wirssaladze lets you catch a glimpse of another, ethereal world - that's a guarantee!
