Italiaanse lamentaties uit Vlaanderen
Ensemble Bonne Corde seeks out drama in the passion music of Joseph-Hector Fiocco.
For this dive into the rich musical history of our country, help arrives from an unexpected quarter with the Portuguese Ensemble Bonne Corde. In late 2022, these fresh baroque musicians released an album with Ramée with lamentations for the holy week by Joseph-Hector Fiocco. Despite his Italian-sounding surname, this musician was a Brussels thoroughbred, son of the very first director of the Théâtre de la Monnaie, a composer with an extensive oeuvre and trend-setting in our region. Even though his name does not immediately ring any bells today, in the mid-18th century this Fiocco was influential in the Sablon Church in Brussels and afterwards in Antwerp Cathedral. After all these centuries, he once again sounds out in our City on the Scheldt.
