At a young age, Michel-Richard Delalande took over the torch from the older Lully as court composer to the sun king. His dominion would last for forty years. At the beginning of this long career, he wrote a series of motets that are amongst the most striking products of the French baroque. The performances by Sébastien Daucé and his Ensemble Correspondances serve as the touchstones in this repertoire. Refined interplay and sovereign control allow them to expose the emotional essence time and time again. Luxurious, sometimes surprising, but always spectacularly beautiful.
