His 'Piccola Musica Notturna' recalls a deserted village square, fascinating listeners with a sublime solitude expressed in sound. 'Lied der Waldtaube' seizes your imagination in a different way. Arnold Schoenberg reworked this song from his 'Gurre-Lieder' for chamber orchestra. Dark passions set the tone of this exceptionally melodious, expressive and almost symmetrical piece. An intense experience that the late romantic 'Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen' by Gustav Mahler also has in store for you. In it, a spurned lover tries to obliterate his sadness with a flight through nature, set to chromatic melodies. And for the listener, mezzo-soprano Susan Graham is perfect company.
