For 'Kwadratur', the sixteen members of Blindman - four saxophones, four strings, four voices and four percussionists - once again reach out to the limits of the concert experience. 'Cube' is the final part of the 'Kwadratur' triptych. Sound mixes with light and architecture. Music deliberately manipulates the perception of time and space as a purely sensory given. The audience is taken on an auditory trip and is in turn the observer and the observed. All on the basis of work by Annelies Van Parys (creation), Luc Brewaeys, Wim Henderickx, Riccardo Nova, Pierre Henry, Raphaël Cendo, Fausto Romitelli, Matt Wright, Oscar Bettison, Mayke Nas, Hans Peter Kuhn and Eric Sleichim.
The final two artists in this list have worked intensively together on the design of the production. You have already been able to experience Hans Peter Kuhn's stage and lighting designs and music several times at deSingel, in among other things productions by Robert Wilson, The Wooster Group and Sasha Waltz. With a background as a rock musician and theatre sound technician, he puts installations together in which sound and light complement each other. With Blindman, Eric Sleichim has always paid a great deal of attention to the theatrical aspect of the concert, the spatial experience and the lighting design. It will be exciting to see how these two inspire each other in 'Cube'.
