Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir presents a home-grown 20th-century programme.
After an initial appearance with the Flanders Symphony Orchestra on 3 March, the celebrated Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir is paying a second visit to DE SINGEL this season. A deliberate double booking, because they are the veritable global crème de la crème! It’s not only in terms of their singing technique that the choir are virtually unparalleled, but they also dazzle with their extensive repertoire. For example, if their first visit is all about Mozart, then this time they present a 20th-century programme; one that originates from their own rich soil, moreover. With this anthology of the vocal oeuvres of Cyrillus Kreek and Veljo Tormis, the singers prove that Estonia has so much more to offer than Arvo Pärt alone, The legendary Tõnu Kaljuste - in 1981 the driving force behind the ensemble that since recently has once again been under his leadership - completes an unmissable Estonian cross-pollination.
