Rediscover symphonic pioneers with Fabio Biondi and Europa Galante
What if we told you that the symphony not only originated with Haydn or Mozart, but also with a Belgian pioneer? Pieter Van Maldere (1729-1768), court composer in Brussels and Music Director of De Munt/La Monnaie, played a key role in the birth of the symphony. His music echoed in the courts of Europe, was admired by Haydn, and even heard by the young Mozart. Yet, his name faded into obscurity.
Until now. Fabio Biondi, a master of historically informed performances, and his internationally acclaimed ensemble Europa Galante breathe new life into Van Maldere's sparkling Sinfonias in G and D. Combined with Haydn's playful Divertimento, Mozart's iconic Eine kleine Nachtmusik, and Vivaldi's fiery Concerto ‘Madrigalesco’, the musical world in which the symphony was born becomes tangible. A Belgian who vanished from music history, rediscovered by one of the world's leading Italian ensembles. Europa Galante brings him home.
