Fabrizio Cassol - Fabian Fiorino
Aulochrome
As part of Jazz Middelheim 2003 a completely new musical instrument is being presented at deSingel. The 'aulochrome' is a reed instrument designed by François Louis. The name derives from aulos (a reed instrument in Ancient Greece) and chrome (chromatic, coloured). The instrument comprises two soprano saxophones and uses a revolutionary mechanism that allows the valves of the two horns to be played separately or together. This makes it possible to produce new acoustic tonal effects. The saxophone virtuoso Fabrizio Cassol, familiar from Aka Moon, is for the moment the only one who plays the instrument. He will be introducing it to the audience together with the pianist Fabian Fiorini. The designer, François Louis, will also attend. After the demonstration the audience is invited to ask questions.
