Fatma Saïd sheds a new and exciting light on the major song repertoire.
The young Egyptian soprano Fatma Saïd has one of the most beautiful voices around today. On her debut album El Nour ('The light’ in Arabic) she sheds new light on the major song repertoire. In so doing, she links Western songs with an Eastern twist to popular Arabic classics. In this way she wants to highlight the close musical connection between these cultures, despite their apparent differences. She also encourages fans of the two genres to explore one another’s worlds. This leads to exciting discoveries, such as the Arab ney that replaces the flute in Ravel’s song La Flûte enchantée, making the music sound even more mysterious.
