In 1930 Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey, had his house moved to save an adjacent plane tree. The Turkish composer and leading pianist Fazil Say dedicated a work for piano and strings to that story, which you can hear for the first time in Belgium during this concert. Fazil Say, one of today’s most original musicians, takes the Kammerorchester Basel in tow in his eclectic sound world and through scores by two other composing pianists: one of Mozart’s most stormy symphonies and Shostakovich’s energetic Piano Concerto No.2.
