introduction Dirk Moelants . 7.15pm . Music Studio
Ferran Savall, the son of Montserrat Figueras and Jordi Savall, has inherited his parents' musical talent: he not only sings but also plays the theorbo and guitar. His repertoire ranges from early traditional music to his own compositions and improvisations. On his recently released CD 'Mireu el nostre mar', he champions early Catalonian melodies from the oral tradition. He skilfully frees them from their nostalgic past so that they are in keeping with today's music. Indeed, his version of the well known Catalonian Christmas carol 'El cant dels ocells' ('The singing of the birds') is given new lyrics and becomes a love poem in a Mediterranean landscape. By way of his sensitive and natural way of singing he also adapts traditional Breton and Hebrew songs, and shapes them so that they become a part of his own universe.
For this concert, Ferran enters into dialogue with father's musical world, Jordi Savall.
