The British ensemble Florilegium have whipped up quite a storm on the international baroque scene in only a few years, with striking, clear, lively performances. This is due to the consistent choice of using single instrumentation. Even in the Bach suites, repertoire that for decades has been the terrain of baroque orchestras, they have stuck to using one instrument per part.
One of their long-standing partners is the Dutch soprano Johannette Zomer, who herself is a Bach specialist. In this concert, she focuses her attention on the Bach solo cantatas, music that requires great personal commitment to Bach's religious perception in order to obtain a convincing result. Given her years of collaboration with the Nederlandse Bachvereniging and her impressive stint as a Bach interpreter, this programme presents no problems for Johannette Zomer!
