A fresh approach, flawless technique and infectious enthusiasm. With these ingredients, Isabelle Faust first blew the dust off Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in late 2016. In Pablo Heras-Casado she found a perfect partner for this adventure. For this concert he has also chosen to tackle the First Symphony. The result is alternately elegant, adventurous and brimming with energy. To whet the appetites of connoisseurs, we are also serving up the delicious music that Mendelssohn wrote in 1842 to complement his famous overture ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. The treat begins with a sparkling scherzo, and the rollercoaster of the intermezzo ends in a dreamy nocturne with the wonderful combination of horn and bassoon. The Freiburger Barockorchester will bring out colours that you have never heard before.
