Last season, the cellist Gautier Capuçon and pianist Frank Braley presented the first part of their complete Beethoven sonatas. An overwhelming success! We immediately invited them back for the sequel. These two musicians form an unsurpassed duo. They feel perfectly at home with Beethoven's sonatas. They are playful virtuosos in the two series of variations on themes from Mozart's 'Die Zauberflöte'. Then they emerge with furious energy and depth in the two Sonatas opus 5. These pieces consist of 'only' two movements, but what movements! Beethoven's imagination knew no bounds. The Third Sonata in A is the most frequently performed because of its balanced form and its distinctly lyrical character. Quite simply one of the most perfect works of chamber music in history.
