Capuçon & Lugansky: a compelling cello-piano dialogue
Gautier Capuçon needs no introduction. His warm tone and expressive playing make him one of today’s most beloved cellists. This time, he brings along pianist Nikolaj Lugansky. Described by Gramophone as 'the most trailblazing and meteoric performer of all', Lugansky promises to be a formidable musical partner. Together, they dive into a programme brimming with lyricism and passion: Debussy’s impressionistic colours, the introspective depth of Brahms, and the fervent drama of Rachmaninov. The latter composed his Sonata for cello and piano in 1901 after a period of creative block. The piece became a catharsis for the composer, and that sentiment is palpable this evening. Capuçon lets his cello sing, while Lugansky breathes refined intensity into the music.
An unforgettable evening in the Blue Hall, in which emotion and virtuosity seamlessly intertwine, featuring three of the most cherished works from the cello repertoire.
