Geert Callaert - Luc Artois - Champ d'Action - Jaan Bossier
The first concert programme of the day is pure Champ d'Action: pioneering electro-acoustic music from yesterday and today. Stockhausen's Kontakte smoothed the way for countless experiments in contemporary music. Champ d'Action will perform the second, 1960, version for electronic sound, piano and percussion. This work turns its back entirely on western music and is intended to give the listener the feeling that "the floor is suddenly falling away or that an explosion is taking place" (Stockhausen). Lichtbogen, by the Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho (b. 1952) is more poetic in intention. It is an evocation of the skies over Lapland, tinted by the northern light, a moment of stillness and a feeling of infinity. The final work, Serge Verstockt's LOW, is still under wraps while this text was being written. The only thing Verstockt wants to reveal is that the title refers to the instruments used, meaning those in the lower range of the ensemble.
