Through a twist of fate, Aglika Genova and Liuben Dimitrov shared a music room at the Musikhochschule in Hannover. As it contained two grand pianos, they decided to study together. The spark was lit and for more than twenty years now, they have shared life’s joys and sorrows both on and offstage. They take us on a voyage of discovery through eight variations and a finale in Johannes Brahms’ Variations on a Haydn theme.
Next we hear music from Mendelssohn in the ‘Großes Konzertstück über Mendelssohns Lieder ohne Worte’. Liszt adapted three of these lieder with his own musical elements to create a highly poetic piano duo. In Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances the two pianists follow close on each other’s heels…. No challenge is too great for the Genova & Dimitrov duo.
