Grigory Sokolov plays Beethoven & Schubert. A recital of rare intensity.
Grigory Sokolov gives no interviews. Does no photoshoots. No social media, no marketing campaigns. Only music. And yet his recitals sell out worldwide in the blink of an eye. Because what he does is unparalleled. Sokolov does not play to be heard, but because he cannot do otherwise. Each concert is an act of total dedication, where every note carries weight.
The programme has now been revealed: Beethoven’s monumental Sonata No 4, followed by the late, concentrated Six Bagatelles. After the interval comes Schubert’s final Piano Sonata - a work of stillness, tension and unfathomable depth. Those who heard him at DE SINGEL before know what that means. The moment he touches the keys, everything else falls away. Only the music remains.
Whilst the Blue Hall is being renovated, the Red Hall is being converted into a concert hall. To enhance this transformation both visually and acoustically, set designer Sammy Van den Heuvel has created an abstract, geometric installation that draws the eye to the pianist and the music to the ear.
