Maya Fridman and HERMESensemble take you on a magical musical journey.
The leading Russian cellist Maya Fridman believes that music is magic. Naturally, she likes to transport her audience to that other, magical world. She thus makes every concert into an almost religious ritual. Together with the HERMESensemble, she invites you to discover the spiritual world of Anna Thorvaldsdottir and Lera Auerbach. In this way they bring to life Thorvaldsdottir’s In The Light of Air, a sea of sound with emotionally charged drones in which light sparkles. A special lighting concept is therefore called for. Lera Auerbach’s Dreammusic promises a dreamy, trance-like experience that continues to build on the legacy of the modernists such as Dimitri Shostakovich. Fridman and the HERMESensemble weave together Thorvaldsdottir’s and Auerbach’s compositions to create a captivating musical trip. This exciting voyage of discovery begins with mysterious whispering from the Flemish composer Maya Verlaak. In Whispers the human voice determines the evolution of the sound colours and the harmonies that are born during the ensemble performance.
