introduction Julius Drake and Lucrèce Maeckelbergh . 7.15pm . Bar De Kunsthaven
The English Tenor Ian Bostridge is becoming ever more convincing as a Lieder singer. His voice has become darker and richer, without losing its suppleness and clarity. Always with a profound understanding of the text, Bostridge brings intelligent and often very personal interpretations. His regular pianist Julius Drake finds the right colours for every song. Together, they dare to take you by surprise and shed new light on songs that you thought you already knew.
In this deSingel recital, Bostridge and Drake have made a fine selection of well and less well-known Schubert songs. Actually, Schubert's songs are a hot topic. At first glance, they appear to be about friendship and love, 'wandering' and nature. But behind this idyll, doubt about a self-destructive world is concealed. Texts that are typical of the oppressed poets in the repressive Metternich era, but which have still not lost their meaning.
