Do you too think back nostalgically to your bedtime stories? Then definitely do not miss this Ictus production. Composer Georges Aperghis and artists Hans Op de Beeck, Bruno Hardt and Klaas Verpoest, who got to know each other through Ictus, together decided to retell the story of Tom Thumb. The elements of Charles Perraults' (1628-1703) fairytale are a young boy the size of a thumb, pebbles, breadcrumbs, a wood and giants. Whether Op de Beeck, Hardt and Verpoest remain loyal to Perrault's original version is something you can discover for yourself during the evening. The little adventurer's long journey is filmed with a digital camera. On the stage, you are welcomed by an ensemble of sixteen musicians. Aperghis' musical Thumb does not evoke nostalgia, just a sweet fairytale feeling. However, Aperghis does evoke the dark nature of Tom Thumb, his continual state of uncertainty and forlornness. Perhaps not the ideal preparation for a good night's sleep?
