Ida Aldrian & Helmut Deutsch

The great Lieder pianist Helmut Deutsch heard the Austrian mezzo Ida Aldrian during the Schubertiade at Schwarzenberg. He immediately wanted to work with her and so a recital was soon arranged. In addition to songs by Schubert and Richard Strauss, in this concert you will also discover a great many lesser-known gems. Such as late-romantic songs by Joseph Marx, and Zemlinsky, with their echoes of Brahms and Wolf. And Korngold's Lieder oeuvre is also enjoying a revival: about 40 songs in a wide variety of styles, from late-romantic to modernist. In his Opus 38, Korngold recycled quite a lot of material from the film music he had composed in Hollywood. These songs were popular from the very beginning.
