One of the greatest achievements of the early music movement is the way it has furthered our interest in lesser known repertoire and composers. However, not every composition unearthed from the archives and libraries over the last 40 years has been a great discovery. But if there is one composer who merits attention, it is the Bohemian Jan Dismas Zelenka. Bach and Telemann were among his admirers. Zelenka's flawless counterpoint, together with his very individual use of harmony, was highly praised by Bach. Paul Dombrecht, who is always in pursuit of undiscovered treasures, elaborates on the Passion theme with three religious vocal compositions. Don't be put off by the highly individual and often remarkably modern style of this music. Zelenka's style is unique, instantly recognisable and distinctive.
