We consider Johann Sebastian Bach as the most important composer of his era, but the better-known was Telemann. The superb Overture with its elegant horn and oboe solos is typical of his accessible high-quality music; it is perfectly suited to Marcel Ponseele and his ensemble!
We are know the opera-like cantata ‘Schweigt stille, plaudert nicht’ as the 'Coffee Cantata'. In the late 17th century, coffee was advancing rapidly across Europe and the coffee houses were often full of music. For about 20 years, Bach was a loyal customer of Café Zimmermann in Leipzig. That is also where the dramma per musica 'Lasst uns sorgen, lasst uns wachen’ was first performed. This work was written specially for the birthday of the son of the Elector of Saxony.
