Imogen Cooper's recordings of Schubert and Mozart have been fixed in our collective memory for some time. Yet she seems to have the gift of eternal youth and this freshness still characterises her playing. Schubert's world of light and shade is a natural habitat for Imogen Cooper. With her marvellously varied touch she is equally able to conjure up the most refined textures and atmospheric nuances of Debussy. And Albéniz too, often called 'the Spanish Debussy'. Cooper is also alert to every sigh or creak in the emotional landscape. She plays a subordinate and natural role and allows the music to speak, and draws the listener into the composer's world of sound. An intimate piano recital to savour like a rich, full wine.
