Beethoven’s daring and inventive piano trios are brilliantly brought to life by these sublime musicians. This is classic Beethoven: abrupt contrasts and turbulent rhetoric, alternated with pathos and lyrical yearning. The trio Faust, Queyras and Melnikov performs it all in a visibly playful, improvised manner, whereby they appear to constantly surprise one another.
The three musicians share a sharp focus, a clear, light tone, and a sparing and richly varied vibrato. With tempi and dynamics, their playing is extremely refined. The Allegros are lively and bursting with energy with a staggering precision of technique and interplay. Long cantabile lines and subtle colour nuances also characterise their playing. Beethoven at his best!
