In his Grand duo concertant Carl Maria von Weber immerses himself with impish delight in the lyrical and virtuoso possibilities of clarinet and piano. Jörg Widmann and Pierre-Laurent Aimard entice one another with rapid somersaults and sultry melodies. Weber’s inventiveness becomes the starting point for Widmann’s own Fantasie, an imaginary tableau that stirs the imagination of performer and listener alike. We hear the same hypersensitive expression in miniatures by Berg and Kurtág, in which every note conjures up a new world.
