The famous Amsterdam Sinfonietta returns to DE SINGEL and they are bringing along… Kian Soltani! The Iranian-Austrian cellist, a protégé of Daniel Barenboim, is one of the rising stars in the cello firmament. Around Haydn’s virtuoso, yet lyrical Cello Concerto No. 1, the musicians drape several transcriptions of songs including An die Musik, a song of praise to the music of one of Schubert’s best-loved lieder. Mendelssohn’s final, melancholy string quartet not only bids farewell to his beloved sister Fanny, but also to life itself. Shortly after completing the work, Mendelssohn himself died.
