Brooklyn Rider is a unique string quartet. As they say themselves, simply reproducing an established canon does not fulfil them. So the New York-based ensemble sets itself apart with well-considered, challenging and eclectic programmes, in which classical repertoire is combined with contemporary work, and different traditions and genres intersect. At DE SINGEL the musicians of Brooklyn Rider are joined by the equally adventurous Syrian clarinet virtuoso and composer Kinan Azmeh, with whom they have now been collaborating for more than ten years. The quintet presents three compositions by Azmeh himself, alongside two recent works by violinist Colin Jacobsen. Ljova’s Everywhere is Falling Everywhere completes a fascinating programme that catapults the clarinet quintet into the 21st century.
