The King's Singers are the unrivalled masters of a capella music. They successfully combine works of vocal music from every age and genre. The Neue Musikzeitung called the musicians of Sarband 'the most original mediaeval music ensemble'. With great devotion they dig out amazing connections between the various musical cultures of East and West. These two top-ranking ensembles together perform a programme focusing on the Psalms of David in a variety of musical settings, ranging from Claude Goudimel (1510-1572) through Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck (1562-1621) and Salamone Rossi (1570-1630) to Ali Rufki (1610-1675).
In this sixteenth and seventeenth-century music - a selection of David's Psalms set to music by a Muslim, a Jew and two Christians - the two ensembles bridge the gap between the three great monotheistic religions, which is nowadays more topical than ever. Playfully and without the slightest dogmatism, they demonstrate that Islam, Judaism and Christianity are sometimes closer to each other than is often thought.
