A recital by pianist Krystian Zimerman is always a unique event. If only because they are so rare: he deliberately limits himself to just 50 concerts per year to avoid routine and because he places such exceptionally high demands on himself. With tireless dedication, concentration and ingenious technical sophistication, he constantly searches for the right sound. He even travels around the world with his own Steinway! No detail escapes his meticulous approach. Every harmonic twist, every nuance sounds out with a refined precision that transcends the coincidental and the personal. Just listen to his most recent Schubert CD. As far as we’re concerned, he should be included on the Unesco World Heritage list. Putting together a programme is also a long, well-balanced process for Zimmerman. Whatever he plays, it would be absolutely criminal to miss this concert, especially because it’s his very first solo recital in Antwerp!
