A hunger for war and the delusions of love. In Claudio Monteverdi's Eighth Book of Madrigals, hearts are engulfed by a searing fire. The 'genere rappresentativo' or 'theatrical style' was Monteverdi's ideal way of interpreting human emotions. This book also contained two of his most popular and most beautiful works. The story of impossible love on the battlefield in 'Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda' with its expressive outbursts, pumps the adrenaline through your blood. The heard-rending 'Lamento della Ninfa' is a foretaste of what the grand opera scene will be. But as well as this, you will hear songs so fragile that you fear they will not sound as magical the second time round.
There is no ensemble more fitting than La Venexiana to bring this passion and sensitivity to the stage. This vocal and instrumental ensemble was founded in 1998 by the countertenor Claudio Cavina to explore the rich world of the Italian madrigal. Since then, their recordings of d'India, Gesualdo and Monteverdi have been overloaded with prizes. When you leave the concert hall, your heart will be glowing like hot coals.
