Two famous trios kick off the jazz season. Firstly, two Germans and an Amsterdammer who couldn't give a damn about rules and who are still looking for adventure: pianist Achim Kaufmann, multi-reed player Frank Gratowski and bassist Wilbert de Joode. All three are of great standing in European jazz circles. On the cutting edge of improvisation, they channel their ideas in exciting directions. These three keep a concentrated eye on each other and are continually constructing a fascinating musical web. Sometimes contrary and mean but of course also with lyrical, warm passages. Followed by an astonishing new trio centred upon the British pianist John Law. He is a classically trained pianist of whom Alfred Brendel has said "he is an interesting and highly talented non-conformist". In 'The Art of Sound', he is assisted by two players from the highest echelons of jazz: the bassist from Russia Juri Goloubev and the new drumming sensation from Israel, Asaf Sirkis. A classic trio that will seduce many a listener.
