Le Concert des Nations / La Capella Reial de Catalunya / Jordi Savall
Johannespassie van Bach
Le Concert des Nations and Jordi Savall present Bach’s masterful St John Passion.
Bach’s St John Passion was first performed during vespers on Good Friday in 1724. With his first passion oratorio, he followed the still-young tradition of his predecessor Johann Kuhnau. Bach’s musical expression of the Biblical passion story must undoubtedly have sounded innovative. The St John Passion is also described as Bach’s only opera thanks to dramatic scenes and fierce music. The performance of this masterpiece is in the hands of none other than the Spanish gambist and baroque specialist Jordi Savall. An exceptional event, because the 80-year old Catalan gambist and conductor - one of the most important pioneers of early music - is returning to DE SINGEL after a long absence. His ongoing research into the origins and historical context of music from the Renaissance and Baroque lies behind original and unforgettable concerts. For the occasion, Savall is bringing his own choir and orchestra with him, La Capella Reial de Catalunya and Le Concert des Nations.
